Mobile Food Takes Seattle by Storm

19 Feb

There’s a quiet, yet steady rumbling in Seattle’s food scene. It’s not the hottest local chef, sustainable food trend or even restaurant. This rumble is coming directly from the streets and it’s taking the city by storm – its food on wheels.

If you haven’t been indoctrinated into the mobile food scene, here’ the lowdown. All over Seattle there are mobile trucks which serve a variety of high-quality street food. Everything you can imagine from Hawaiian to tacos, crepes to Korean, even Thai, falafel, donuts, hot dogs, ice cream and BBQ. And the best thing is they travel all over the city so it’s likely one is in your neighborhood as we speak!

Below I’ve included a small sampling of some of Seattle’s best and hippest curbside cuisine. Since the theme is mobile, the menu often changes from week to week and the location from day to day. The best way to keep us with these road tested foodies is to visit their Web sites or follow them on Facebook or Twitter – here they post updates on weekly menus, locations for the day and special events they’ll be attending.

Oh and if you’re strapped for time during the week and can’t make it out of the office for some of the most amazing “to-go” food you’ll ever find, fret not pets. Mobile Chowdown is an ongoing event in which these lovely mobile gourmands come together in one spot to showcase their food and win over even the most stodgiest foodies. The next one is coming up on Saturday, March 13 at Safeco Field and will feature a showdown between Seattle and Portland. Admission and even parking is free so there is NO excuse not to get your mobile food on.

Another up-and-coming mobile food company to look out for is Relish Seattle – BBQ with a NW twist, homemade relishes, and more. Super exciting!
